In the midst of the global coronavirus attack, pray that all Christian Action’s staff will persevere to serve with a humble and peaceful heart especially to help labourers in HK to find a job that’s sustainable; and God will generously provide all we need and with plenty left over to share with others.

The adverse situation under the pandemic crisis has posed a hard time for our direct dialogue team tasked with street-level fund raising. May God shower His blessings as we try our best to solicit aid from different parties.  Pray that more members of public will be inspired to help the unfortunate and needy both near and far.

The deadline of our Love for Every Home Drawing Competition just passed last week and we received over 100 entries. Pray that we continue to love and care for one another, strengthen family ties and have a closer relationship with our Lord through the initiative.  Amen!

Please continue to pray hard for our Landmark North Centre in Sheung Shui as we desperately need the renovation fund. Pray for His wisdom and provision, that we will capitalize on it to serve the deprived and needy in one of the poorest districts of Hong Kong.

In this epidemic, the children and youth who are confined at home for most of the time, tend to spend too much time on computer games or online causing a strain on family relationships. Pray that the parents learn how to leverage their worry and anxiety to our Lord for He cares. Amen!

Give thanks to Our Lord! All local staff of the Qinghai office under the China programme have safely returned to work. Pray for His continuous protection and direction, and that our HK staff will be able to return to Qinghai soon when the epidemic is under control.

As we were reporting the great financial hardship faced at the board meeting last month, the HK government publicly announced a new 'Anti-epidemic Fund' to help employers retain and pay staff members. Pray that we will get over this tough time and continue to serve and walk with the marginalized during and after the epidemic.

Please continue to pray for a shelter client under our Migrant Domestic Workers Programme who underwent her last round of chemotherapy for breast cancer in late April. May God make her strong, send His angels to walk with and comfort her during this time of trial.  Amen!

The Social Enterprise Division continues to conduct green collection events in different private housing estates in Kowloon this month.  Pray that we help promote environmental conservation through our persistent endeavors.

Some mentees’ parents under the mentorship programme have lost their jobs or seen their pay cut due to the COVID-19 crisis. Many of them feel stressed and helpless with little financial support.  Pray that the government’s welfare aid would help ease their burden.

To contain the spread of the coronavirus, all training courses under the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) are on hold until further notice. Pray for His insight, protection and provision for all our clients, volunteers, partners and staff of Christian Action; that our services would resume very soon.

A territory-wide census will be conducted in HK next year.   Pray that Mrs. Cheung, as a member of the Statistics Advisory Board, will meet with the Board today to give advice on collecting demographic and socio-economic data of the HK population which is essential for the government to strategize its future planning.

About 350 reusable cotton water-proof face masks donated by different donors will be distributed to the kids from the New Arrivals Mong Kok Service Centre and Ethnic Minorities Service Centre in May. Pray that more parties will join us to deliver love and care for the vulnerable families.

Due to the pandemic outbreak, the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (DSE) 2020 was postponed to start at the end of April and will continue till the third week of this month. Pray that all students sitting for the examination would be well prepared to achieve the best results they deserve. Pray that they learn that God has a plan to prosper them and to give them a future filled with hope.

Answered prayer
Praise God. The first batch of rehabilitation equipment will arrive in Qinghai this month. We will start the second batch of the bidding process to buy 2-million dollars’ worth of equipment to be donated through CA. Pray for the procedures to go ahead smoothly; and together we improve the well-being of the children with disabilities on the Tibetan Plateau.

As the economy has been seriously hit by the pandemic crisis, mass layoffs and salary cuts are seen in HK.  About 100 new cases particularly those from the catering and retailing sectors have been referred to our Employment Support Services On Tai Service Centre since March. Pray that our staff would better equip them to get through the tough time.

Our Social Enterprise Division was interviewed on a radio programme of RTHK last month which featured our upcycling programme in Green Connect.  Pray that we strive to impart the message of 3Rs to the general public: Reuse, Recycle and Reduce to conserve God’s creation.

To help secure enough masks for the kids from the low-income families when schools reopen sooner or later, a few women from our New Arrivals Mong Kok Service Centre have been recruited to help make reusable water-proof cotton masks for them. Pray that we will garner enough financial support for our ministries.

Thanks should be given to a private corporation that donated 200 sanitary and cleaning kits to the ethnic minorities families in late April. A sharing session will be arranged for the volunteers from the corporation via Zoom today. Pray that we will partner with different corporations to show love and care for the needy.

Today let’s celebrate the “World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development”. Pray for a stable environment that embraces mutual understanding and sustainable acceptance of all mankind regardless of the diversity in culture, race, religion and legal status.

Since many local trades and industries have been seriously hit by the COVID-19 outbreak, our clients from the Centre for Refugees on the employability programme who have been laid off or are on unpaid leave have no other means to support themselves or their families. Please pray for them as they are not even qualified to receive the HK Government’s subsidies.

Praise God! The research study commissioned by the Labour and Welfare Bureau proves that the mentorship programme under the Child Development Fund which we have been participating in has long-term benefits for grassroots children. Pray that we continue to spread God’s word through this faith-based mentorship programme.

People are quarantined in the United States due to the worldwide epidemic outbreak. Pray for God’s healing and protection for them to get over the crisis, that the supporters of Christian Action Asia will be able to embrace the deprived and handicapped children on the Tibetan Plateau soon when the epidemic is over. Amen!

Green Connect under the Social Enterprise Division has been advocating the practice of upcycling in the community so as to reduce household wastes dumped in landfills. Pray that we strive to preserve our beloved God’s creations through our effort.

This afternoon, 2 colleagues from our SHINE Centre will conduct an on-line training class for 82 social work students from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Sha Tin Campus) to enhance their understanding of and sensitivity towards the ethnic minorities in HK prior to their job placements. Pray that we strive to foster a community embracing diversity in harmony.

Our first phase of the e-receipt system was completed in mid-April; and the second-phase has kicked off. Pray that our work efficiency would then be improved and manpower would be optimized.

Social distancing has been enforced in our community to contain coronavirus infections. Together with the economic setback, an emotional epidemic might be triggered as an aftermath. Pray for His wisdom and insight as we strategize the new initiative named ‘Flying Over Self-Reliance & Mutual Help – Estate House Team Leader for On Tai Project’ (感動樂安泰─樓長運動好幫手) to be launched in summer. Pray that we strive to be the salt and light in this new community.
