To better serve our clients, our Ethnic Minorities (EM) Integrated Services Woosung Street Centre (WSC) and Tuen Mun SHINE Centre (TMSC) were closed for thorough cleaning and sanitization from early December. WSC and TMSC were re-opened in late December and today respectively. Pray that we also raise our clients’ awareness of the importance of environmental and personal hygiene in fighting the virus.

Recently our China team has successfully relocated to a new Qinghai office with the new Xining Children's Home. Pray that we continue to bless the disabled orphans on the Tibetan Plateau through smooth collaboration with the local authority and staff. Despite the fact that our Child Development Fund Mentorship programme service teams have to cancel or postpone all group activities scheduled earlier due to the Covid-19 outbreak, they continue to stay connected with individual clients virtually in the Personal Development Plan stage. Pray that the mentees are inspired to choose to walk a Godly life through this life-impacting programme.

Praise God for turning a curse into a blessing. After an overwhelmingly successful fundraising campaign to rebuild our Centre for Refugees after a dreadful fire last August, renovations are underway now. Pray for His continued protection for the workers who have to work in cramped conditions; and that we strive to be the salt and light in this city through our ministry.

Our China Programme team is recruiting a local social worker or assistant for our enhanced services in the children’s homes on the Tibetan Plateau. Pray that the candidate is dedicated and competent, and committed to serve in this ministry.

Today the Migrant Domestic Workers Programme team will co-organize a webinar with the AIDs Concern & the Indonesian Consulate to learn their rights if they were diagnosed with HIV and AIDS and face illegal termination of employment contract or related issues. Pray that this marginalized sector feel cherished by the community through our ministry.

Mass layoffs and salary cuts resulting from economic stagnation have put many grassroots families under great stress to even feed their families with nutritious food. So we continue to lobby for partnership in our "Emergency Food!" Campaign to help feed 1,000 persons in need. Pray that more people will be moved to support the campaign!

To prevent further spread of the coronavirus, the Training Services Division has shifted the classes under the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) as far as possible to “Hybrid Training Mode” since 7th December. Let’s pray humbly in unison for His guidance and providence for our service at this desperate moment. Amen!

Children under the care of our children and youth programmes will take their special internal mid-term school assessments this month as the e-learning mode has been adopted for months and become a norm. Pray that all of them will learn “self-discipline” and work hard to achieve their best results.

Give thanks!
Our Sheung Shui Centre received 600 anti-pandemic packs from a generous donor last month. Each pack contained some canned food, face masks, a small pack of rice and other sanitary products, which were given to clients on welfare benefits. Pray that more corporate partners will join us to deliver love and care for the distressed in one of the poorest sectors of the city.

This new year will see about 120 young adults reach the age of 18, which by law requires them to leave our children’s homes co-managed with the local authority in Qinghai. May God bless them abundantly so that they will design their future path with confidence, hope and vigor.

Coupled with the economic setback due to the pandemic, the unemployment rate is expected to escalate to as high as 8% in the coming 6 months. Pray for faith in Him, for His presence, His word, His empowerment and direction to guard us against all physical, mental and spiritual struggles.

Despite the hardship brought by the current economic setback, most of the mentee families under the Child Development Fund Mentorship Programme have achieved their target savings; and will move forward to pursue their dreams. Pray that they would learn how special they are in the eyes of our Lord and regain self-confidence in the process.

In light of the pandemic situation and social distancing measures, we offer our after-school care service and free daily Blessing meal programme with varying adjustments and precautions.  Pray that we keep filling up the service gap for the grassroots families, who struggle hard to subsist on a meager income.

Some shelter clients of our Migrant Domestic Helpers Programme are dragged into court cases arising from their sickness or unfair dismissal in their employment contracts. In the wake of the recent tragic fire in a tenement building in Yau Ma Tei in mid-November, we decided to launch a fundraising campaign to carry out some essential refurbishment to the premises to lower the risk of hazards due to fires. Pray that there will be more believers to share our vision to help them.

To curb the coronavirus, our Tuen Mun Service Centre has shifted most of the training/tutorial classes to e-learning mode. May God protect the clients and staff of the Centre to undergo a smooth adaptation and implementation of all programmes.

Starting from this month, our Sheung Shui Centre and Continuing Education & Corporate Training Department will jointly launch a series of online workshops featuring basic make-up and acupuncture points for clients on welfare benefits in the Northern Territories. Pray that they will be enriched by the demand-oriented training and re-enter the job market with ease and vigor.

To prevent further spread of the novel coronavirus in the community, our On Tai Service Centre has suspended its services including face-to-face counselling and regular meetings of the mutual support groups for clients on welfare benefits. Pray that the virus will soon be gone and we can resume our services accordingly.

Pray that more people would be aroused to show concern for children of stranded refugees in HK, that they will have equal access to formal education as a means to break the vicious cycle of poverty, and to attain a more sustainable future.

In November, a terrible blaze broke out in a tenement building in Yau Ma Tei, resulting in 11 people being severely injured and 8 deaths (4 of them were our Ethnic Minorities (EM) Integrated Services Woosung Street Centre’s clients). Please continue to pray for His comfort for the bereaved families of the victims and steady recovery for the injured; and that there will be generous donors to support them during these extremely trying times. Pray for strength to our staff who are looking after these families in distress.
