International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
Since 1992, the United Nations has designated 17th October as "International Day for the Eradication of Poverty." The purpose is to raise awareness worldwide about the global issue of poverty and wealth disparity caused by sanctions, various forms of discrimination, and unequal concentrations of wealth. It aims to promote global consciousness about poverty eradication and hopes to foster collaborative efforts to reduce poverty.
According to the latest "Hong Kong Poverty Situation Report" released by the Government of HKSAR, Hong Kong has over 1.653 million people living in poverty, with a poverty rate of 23.6%. This means that one out of every four Hong Kong residents struggles to make a living, in extreme poverty. Behind the bustling cityscape, the grassroots population strives to survive in the face of adversity.
