This afternoon, Mrs. Cheung-Ang Siew Mei, JP, our Executive Director, in her capacity as Chairman of the Justice and Social Concern Committee (JSCC) under the HK Christian Council (HKCC), will hold a meeting. May God guide her words and steps when JSCC acts as a channel to uphold and practise His peace and justice despite the challenges ahead.

Our government is currently launching stakeholder consultation on a proposed regulatory regime for Basic Housing Units (BHUs) until 10 February 2025 with a view to eradicating the substandard sub-divided units (SDUs) in phases. The SDUs are required to meet the relevant minimum standards. Pray for sensitivity and wisdom for all the stakeholders and government departments in charge to suggest and implement the policy; thus, eventually improving the well-being of the poor and needy.

Please pray for His divine guidance, wisdom, and provision when we are strategizing different initiatives/programmes for the new fiscal year of 2025/26. May His Word be whispered and deeply implanted in the hearts of the service users through our ministries and services for the most marginalized sectors such as refugees, asylum seekers and foreign domestic helpers. And that the public will recognize us as following the example of Jesus Christ to walk with the vulnerable. Amen!

Our EM service team at OTSC is planning to offer more tailor-made services for the EM neighbourhood community including parenting talks and internship programme for EM parents and the youth respectively. Pray that we strive to enhance community cohesion and sense of belonging for our neighbours: locals and EMs alike.

The China team is now appealing for funding to buy some urgently needed rehabilitation equipment for the physically handicapped youth growing up at the Qinghai Social Welfare Institute who are experiencing a rapid decline in their physical strength. Pray for a generous donation for equipment that is well designed to give them more targeted rehabilitation treatments Hopefully, this will delay their deterioration and improve their holistic well-being. Amen!

Echoing with the government’s STEM-themed education, about 24 primary school pupils from our MKC will attend a workshop titled “Amgen生物科技小先鋒” (a little pioneer in biotechnology) this week. Pray that we, by continuing to stimulate the younger generation in self-exploration, can unleash their potential and that they will realize how precious they are in the eyes of Our Lord.

We will co-organize again with Hong Kong Talent Engage and Hong Kong Quality and Talent Migrants Association the second Fai Chun Workshop this afternoon for 14 children from grassroot families under our afterschool care programme at the Christian Action Centre (CAC). Pray that all participants will enjoy and learn Chinese calligraphy with fun. The finished Fai Chun will be presented to our elderly neighbours as a blessing. Pray that all beneficiaries feel the community concern and love particularly around Chinese New Year.

Pray that we continue to partner with different stakeholders in the community for green advocacy and environmental education to the public. Amen!

A private club house has generously donated 125 turnip cakes for the Chinese New Year to our deprived families from MKC. Pray that we will garner more support from different parties to sustain our ministry for the deprived families; and all of them will enjoy this wonderful blessing and gift from God. Amen!

Mrs. Cheung, in her capacity as a member of the Executive Committee under the HK Christian Council (HKCC), will attend its bi-monthly meeting. Pray that all churches from different denominations in HK and Christian organizations would be unified as one Body to withstand future challenges. Amen!

Please continue to pray for the smooth establishment of our Diversity Hub at Chung King Mansions, the first museum dedicated to our ethnic minority communities in HK. This mini museum is guided by EM youth, being empowered by our enrichment programme. Pray that it will be formally launched on schedule.

The SSC will conduct a visit to our SED’s Charity outlet in Sheung Shui for its welfare benefit clients to learn more about the normal operation of the shop next week. Hopefully, they would be equipped with the job skills and confidence to secure full-time employment very soon. Pray that we continue to empower the vulnerable sector in the city. Amen!

Let’s celebrate the International Day of Education today designated by the United Nations highlighting the role of education for peace and development. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind. Pray that more members of the public would be moved to support the notion.

When we celebrate family reunions, marginalized sojourners particularly refugees and some migrant domestic workers living in our shelters must bear daily mental and emotional stress during the festive season. May they be personally comforted by God’s presence and protection. Amen!
