Today sees the last day of our mooncake tin collection initiative, co-organized with Sino Group, to collect empty tins from its private housing estates since September. Pray that we will cooperate seamlessly with different corporate partners to educate people about the importance of recycling during and after festive celebrations.

Today is Chung Yeung Festival. According to Chinese tradition, people will go hiking this day to avoid misfortune. Pray that our staff enjoy their nature walks filled with God’s amazing creations and they are recharged and refreshed to serve the community.

The HK Council of Social Service is promoting a carer-friendly work environment this month, Carer Month, with a view to helping carers balance salaried work and caring roles. Pray that this notion will be well-supported; and through collaboration, we may build up a tripartite connection between the government, corporate sector and public to create a carer-friendly working environment and society as a whole.

About 70 families under the Child Development Fund (CDF) Mentorship Programme and 29 mentors enjoyed a wonderful day at a theme park last month. Pray that the mentees and their families would be further inspired to seek God through this strengthened mentor-and-mentee relationship.

Our Ethnic Minorities (EM) Ambassador Team will collaborate with “Medical Outreachers” Hong Kong to offer free medical checkups and consultation for 60 EM families tomorrow at our Mong Kok Service Centre. Pray that they would learn the importance of honouring God with their bodies. Amen!

Today sees the last workshop for our initiative themed “Re-create your Home Sweet Home” 《「你」想家居.由你改造》 for residents in the neighbourhood, funded by the Wong Tai Sin Home Affairs Office. Pray that our Lord will provide strength to all trainees so that they are well-equipped with knowledge that can be used to improve their lives.

Rejoice!
Our New Arrival Mong Kok Service Centre has successfully secured public funding to sustain the community-based afterschool learning and support service for about 1,400 students from 14 schools in this academic year. Pray that we continue to lessen the burden of deprived families in looking after their children as most of them have to work long hours to subsist.

We are launching another round of the Sharing Consumption Voucher Scheme for deprived families by buying or donating rice packs to feed the hungry. Pray that more people are moved to share their blessings with those in need. Amen!

Our Long Ping Service Centre organized a workshop on handmade soap for a group of mentees under the 9th-phase of the CDF Mentorship Programme last week. Pray that the beneficiaries would identify their potential through the self-exploration journey when walking and working with our team and their respective mentors.

Please continue to pray that our vocational training programme under the China Programme team will be smoothly executed as planned despite the pandemic. May the initiative empower the youth to live out a life with faith, hope and love.

Tomorrow our Social Enterprise Department will jointly conduct a Corporate Social Responsibility Project including a health talk and a fun upcycling workshop with a private enterprise for about 50 children from underprivileged families. Pray that all participants will enjoy the precious moments and feel cherished by the community.

Our CDF On Tai Service Centre team will organize a series of board games training sessions for teenager mentees. Hopefully, they will enjoy themselves and be enriched with skills and direction to serve after the training sessions. Pray that they will serve with a big heart and repay the community in future.

Today our Migrant Domestic Workers (MDW) Programme team will co-organize with HKU’s dental Christian fellowship an educational workshop on oral health at our headquarters for clients. Pray that we strive to be the salt and light in the community and serve the marginalized.

Please pray for the successful launch of CA’s online payment platforms including Global Payment and PayDollar – Digital Payment Gateway this month. This will help us to receive recurrent online donations for our programmes such as Friends of Qinghai Children and Friends of Christian Action to sustain our charity work.

To arouse public awareness of poverty, the United Nations signifies the 17th day of every October as “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty”. The Hong Kong Church Network for the Poor (HKCNP), in which Mrs. Cheung-Ang Siew Mei JP our Executive Director, serves as a member on its Executive Committee and Advisory Committee, will launch “1017-skip a lunch is OK” to help raise this awareness. Hopefully, more Christians will be touched to join hands to end persistent poverty and respect all people.

Our CDF Mentorship Programme On Tai Service Centre team will begin to launch a series of events ranging from art/culture and music to sports and other non-academic disciplines from this October. Hopefully, these would help broaden the mentees’ life horizons and explore their potential. Pray that they will personally understand through our service how special they are; and how much our Lord treasures them.

Our Mong Kok Centre started a new round of English Connect from late September to last throughout this academic year. It is run regularly every Saturday morning with our partner church that offers volunteer tutors and a venue benefiting about 45 children from deprived families. Pray that we continue further partnership with churches to deliver light and hope to the needy as we follow Jesus Christ’s example. Amen!

Recently new staff members have joined our Employment Support Services (both On Tai Service Centre and Sheung Shui Service Centre). Pray that they will adapt to the new working environment and help welfare clients seek stable and long-term employment in this challenging time. Amen!

The HK Christian Council, in which Mrs. Cheung serves as a member on its Executive Committee, will hold its Annual General Meeting today. May its members including churches from different denominations and Christian organizations be called to pray for His mercy, protection and provision for HK to withstand the great challenges ahead. Amen!

Congratulations! Happy 30th anniversary to the Employee Retraining Board (ERB)! Today marks its Big Day celebration cum award presentation ceremony. Our Training Services Division’s team and our corporate partners have attained some awards. Pray that such partnerships will publicize our shared social responsibility so as to bless the community year after year.

Some clients from the Sheung Shui Service Centre, who are on welfare benefits, will attend two separate physical haircutting classes (for beginners) run by the Social Welfare Department today and next Sunday. Pray that they will be enriched to re-enter the job market with confidence. Amen!

Let’s celebrate “United Nations Day” today. Pray that people and nations, alike, will be aroused to embrace one another with faith, hope and love; and remember that the greatest of these is love. Pray that nations will be unified to support both financially and spiritually the sub-divisions of the United Nations such as UNHCR, UNICEF, UNESCO, FAO, WFP and WHO, etc to promote the betterment of humanity as a whole.

Christian Action Asia (USA) is writing up an impressive story about our Children of Qinghai Programme in its upcoming Fall mailing campaign. Please pray for it and that more friends in the States will be personally touched to love and help the disabled and abandoned children on the Tibetan Plateau.

We continue to offer our free daily blessing evening meal programme to 120 elders and low-income family members in our neighbourhood from Monday to Friday at our headquarters. Pray that we keep filling up the service gap for the vulnerable during this difficult time.

Funded by Kwun Tong Home Affairs Office and Kwun Tong District Civic Education Committee, we will conduct the “Kwun Tong District Civic Education Ambassadors” training initiative. Some outstanding students were recommended by their respective secondary schools in Kwun Tong to take part in the programme and all vacancies are filled up. Pray that we strive to empower the younger generation with dreams and hope despite the challenges ahead.
